The Library Development Project

The Library is currently leading on a University project to look at the feasibility of refurbishing and repurposing the Clifford Whitworth Library.

What is The Library Development project?

The project provides the opportunity to act upon feedback from Salford students, which has highlighted the need for improved library floor layouts, improved technology, and an increase in group work and silent working spaces. The aim is to develop the library service in line with changing student requirements and will represent, should the project go ahead, a significant University investment in the library.

At what stage is the project?

We have been working with an external design team and our Estates colleagues on initial plans. Consultation meetings about the proposals have taken place with staff and students, and changes have been made to the initial plans, in response to feedback received.

The outline designs for Clifford Whitworth have been reviewed as part of this consultation process in addition to the potential future uses of any vacated space in the Allerton and Adelphi buildings.

How can I see the plans?

You can find the design plans online:

You can also see the plans displayed on stands in each of our libraries.

The first consultation period is now complete

We have consulted widely to gather the views of a range of staff and student stakeholders, including the Students’ Union. This initial period of consultation is now complete.

We are now analysing and reflecting on the valuable feedback we have received so far. We’d like to thank everybody who has contributed to this process. This contribution will be used to shape the project going forward in the coming months.
