Biography

Julie came to Salford in 2002 after a period at Manchester Metropolitan University.  She joined the European Law Research Centre and then Salford Law School on its foundation in 2007.  Julie came to the University to lead the unique distance learning postgraduate courses in Health and Safety and Environmental Law. More recently she took up the Law School lead for the Construction Law and Practice LLM course. Julie also teaches environmental law to final year students on the LLB Hons courses.  Julie is one of the co-authors of the leading student text book 'Law and the Built Environment'. Her administrative posts include Associate Head International of Salford Law School and Chair of the University's Disciplinary Panel.  

Julie is best known for her research in environmental law.  She has published in the areas of; water law, contaminated land, waste law and green buildings amongst others.  Julie leads the environmental law stream of the RICS  http://www.rics.org  annual legal symposium and is an active member of the UK Environmental Law Association  http://www.ukela.org  (for many years she convened the Water Working Party) and has regularly coordinated responses to government consultations on environmental legislation. Julie supervises PhD students in the areas of health and safety law, environmental law and food safety law.
