Latest Lady Hale lecture and dinner a success

Tuesday 20 March 2012
Friday 16 March saw the latest in the highly successful series of the Law Society’s Lady Hale annual lecture and dinner.

This year's speaker was Mr Michael Beloff QC, who is one of the country's leading barristers and a specialist in public, sports and libel law, spoke entertainingly to an audience of over 50 students, staff and visitors about his experiences of acting as an arbitrator the Court of Arbitration for Sport, an international arbitration body set up to settle disputes related to sport which enjoys close links with senior sporting bodies such as the International Olympic Committee and FIFA.

The subsequent dinner at the Portland Thistle hotel was attended by a record number of students who heard an after-dinner speech from Mr Beloff and a response and thank you from Law Society president Brian Gillespie.  Both of these were very well received but the loudest applause of the evening was reserved for Vicki Hennessy, former School Administrator, who was presented with a gift from the students in recognition of her work in the School over the past six years.
