Postgraduate Taught / Masters

Learning English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) PGT is for postgraduate taught (Masters) students. It is designed to support English language development through the use of academic language and style in assignments and dissertations.

Academic Reading and Writing

Designed to give support with sourcing materials, referencing and planning assignments, together with academic writing skills, including grammar, academic vocabulary and how to organise this information for an assessment.

  • Week 1 Reading for Assessments (w/c 5th Feb)
  • Week 2 Academic Writing Style (w/c 12th Feb)
  • Week 3 Cohesion in Academic Writing (w/c 19th Feb)
  • Week 4 Effective Paraphrasing (w/c 26th Feb)
  • Week 5 Forming the Passive Voice (w/c 5th March)
  • Week 6 Writing Critically (w/c 12th March)

This module will run on Wednesdays 11am – 1pm.

Academic Presentations

Designed to give support in preparation for academic presentations, including effective planning, preparing visual aids, using signposting language, prioritising and summarising information.

Week 1 Planning a Presentation (w/c 5th Feb)

  • Week 2 Using Signposting Language (w/c 12th Feb)
  • Week 3 Effective Visual Aids (w/c 19th Feb)
  • Week 4 Tense Usage in Presentations (w/c 26th Feb)
  • Week 5 Presentation Practice (w/c 5th March)
  • Week 6 Presentation Practice (w/c 12th March)

This module will run on Tuesdays 11am – 1pm and repeated Tuesdays 2pm – 4pm.
