International scholarships and bursaries

Do you have an excellent academic record? Then you could qualify for one of our generous international scholarships or bursaries.

Our scholarship are worth up to £5,000. Over the past couple of years we have awarded more than £2 million in international scholarships to students from across the world.

Our main scholarships are: the Vice Chancellor's Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship, the Vice Chancellor's Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship, College of Science and Technology Bursary and Country  Bursary.

This scholarship is for entry to Bachelors degrees and is worth up to £5,000 and is assessed according to academic criteria. This is assessed during the admission process and there is no need to make a separate application.                  

You are eligible for this scholarship if you are an international (full-fee paying) student looking to take a full-time Bachelors degree that meets the criteria. 

Criteria includes: 
  • 'A level' grades – a minimum of ABB (128 UCAS points) or equivalent                              
  • Scottish Qualifications Authority Higher National Diploma (any subject) – Pass with AAA in graded units, with a minimum IELTS 6.5 or equivalent                              
  • University of Salford International Foundation Year – 70% or higher overall                              
  • NCUK International Foundation year (any subject) with an equivalent of 128 UCAS points and a minimum of EAP C                              
  • Edexcel Higher National Diploma (any subject) – Pass with a minimum of eight Distinctions and IELTS 6.5 or equivalent                              
  • International Baccalaureate – a minimum of three subjects at higher level with a minimum grade of 34                              

Please note: Foundation and HND are not eligible. Part-time students are also eligible, but in these cases the award will be issued on a pro-rata basis. The award is made as a discount from the tuition fees.                        

For 2017/18 entry applications: The Vice Chancellor's Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship can be combined with the Country Bursary.                        

This scholarship is worth £3,000. If you study the Salford MBA, MSc Petroleum and Gas Engineering or MSc Gas Engineering and Management this scholarship is worth £4,000.                

This is assessed during the admission process and there is no need to make a separate application.                  

You are eligible for this scholarship if you are an international (full-fee paying) student looking to take an eligible full-time taught Masters that meets the criteria.                

Criteria includes: If you have a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent                

Please note: MSc Robotics and Embedded System, MA International Security Studies, and MA Terrorism and Security Studies are not eligible. Graduate Certificate in International Management, PG Certs and PG Diplomas are not eligible. Part-time students are also eligible, but in these cases the award will be issued on a pro-rata basis. The award is made as a discount from the tuition fees.                        

For 2017/18 entry for applications received before the 30th June 2017: The Vice Chancellor's Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship can be combined with the Country Bursary. You can also combine these awards with the Loyalty Discount.

For 2017/18 entry for applications received after the 30th June 2017: The Vice Chancellor's Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship can be combined with the Country Bursary. You cannot combine these awards with the Loyalty Discount. If you are eligible for both options you will receive the highest value award.                        

  • This bursary is worth £1,000 per year and is offered to both undergraduate and postgraduate taught programme applicants who meet the eligibility criteria.                              
  • This is assessed during the admission process and there is no need to make a separate application.                              
  • You will automatically qualify for a discount of £1,000 on your course fees, if you are from a qualifying country. Download a list of countries that are eligible for the Country Discount Scheme (PDF).                              
  • Part-time and Distance Learners will receive the award pro-rata basis. The award is made as a discount from the tuition fees.                              

For 2017/18 entry for applications received before the 30th June 2017: The Country Bursary can be combined with the Vice Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship or the College of Science and Technology Bursary. You can also combine these awards with the Loyalty Discount. 

For 2017/18 entry for applications received after the 30th June 2017: The Country Bursary can be combined with the Vice Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship and/or the College of Science and Technology Bursary. You cannot combine these awards with the Loyalty Discount. If you are eligible for both options you will receive the highest value award.                  

This award is worth £1,000 for international students who have achieved a 2:2 honours degree or equivalent and join a taught Masters course at the University of Salford in STEM subject areas. This is assessed during the admission process and there is no need to make a separate application. The award is made as a discount from the tuition fees if you study in one of the following Schools.                      

For 2017/18 entry for applications received before the 30th June 2017: The College of Science and Technology Bursary can be combined with the Country Bursary. You can also combine these awards with the Loyalty Discount.                      

For 2017/18 entry for applications received after the 30th June 2017: The College of Science and Technology Bursary can be combined with the Country Bursary. You cannot combine these awards with the Loyalty Discount. If you are eligible for both options you will receive the highest value award.                      

Loyalty Discount Scheme                        

If you complete an eligible course at Salford, you will may be entitled to a discount of 25% off your fees if you take another course with us.                        

Our Loyalty Discount Scheme is a great way to save money if you take an undergraduate course at Salford and decide to move onto a postgraduate programme of study                        

For 2017/18 entry for applications received before the 30th June 2017: The Loyalty Discount can be combined with other eligible awards.                        

For 2017/18 entry for applications received after the 30th June 2017: The Loyalty Discount cannot be combined with other eligible awards. If you are eligible for more than one option you will receive the highest value award.                        

You may be eligible if:                        

  • You have graduated from a Bachelors degree programme and then register on to a full taught Masters degree                    
  • You have graduated from a taught Masters programme and then you register on to a research degree programme                        

Please note: If  you complete the Graduate Certificate in International Management, and wish to progress on to a full-time Masters programme you would not be deemed eligible for the Loyalty Discount. 

Please note: that the 25% discount will be deducted after any scholarship or country discount has been applied to your course fees.        

If you pay your course fees in full when, or before, you register with us, you will automatically receive a 3% discount on your net tuition fee.                            

If you are studying via distance learning, any award that you qualify for will be paid on a pro-rata basis.

Chevening Scholarships at the University of Salford

In partnership with Chevening, the University of Salford for September 2017 is offering 5 full tuition postgraduate taught scholarships which are available across all school provisions.

  • Chevening Scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.
  • The scholarships are awarded to outstanding scholars with leadership potential. Awards are typically for a one year Master’s degree at universities across the UK.
  • There are over 44,000 Chevening Alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.

  • Chevening Scholarships are for talented professionals who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields, including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion, and academia.

NCUK Scholarships

Undergraduate - The Vice Chancellor’s scholarship  

This is open to NCUK students studying the IFY route (any subject). Students who gain the equivalent of 128 UCAS points and a minimum of EAP C in their IFY will automatically receive the Salford NCUK scholarship worth up to £5,000

Postgraduate - The Salford NCUK Scholarship

This is open to NCUK students studying the PMP route. Students who gain 65% in their PMP will automatically receive the Salford NCUK scholarship worth up to £5,000.

MSc Public Health Scholarship

Scholarship now closed for September 2017. This scholarship will reopen for September 2018 in the new year.

Brazil - Science Without Borders - Brazil

This sponsorship scheme is run in partnership with the Brazilian government. The aim is to provide 101,000 Brazilian students with sponsorship to study abroad at respected Universities.

Indonesia - DIKTI Scholarship scheme

If you are a lecturer at an Indonesian university, or an administrative staff member at a DIKTI or Indonesian state university, this scheme will contribute towards the fees for a postgraduate course at Salford.

Peru - IPFE Scholarship

Open to full-time Postgraduate Taught (Master’s) students for the listed programmes for September 2017 entry

Criteria: Applications are open to students who meet the IPFE requirements. Full details are available here

Successful scholars will be exempt from any further scholarship discounts (for example the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship)

Value: 2 x 50% tuition fees; 2 x 25% tuition fees
