Research in Sociology and Criminology

Our staff and postgraduate research students are members of the Centre for Social Research, the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights, and the Communication, Cultural and Media Studies Centre, which bring together researchers in sociology, criminology, and human rights from within the School of Humanities, Languages & Social Sciences and across the university.

Current research areas include:

  • Crime and criminal justice
  • Communities, localities and inclusion
  • Media, technology and popular culture
  • Social interactionism
  • Contemporary research methods

We also play a leading role in Community Finance Solutions, an award winning independent research unit at the University which specialises in financial and social inclusion, and community asset ownership.
