Sam Pickering

Sam Pickering has served in Greater Manchester Police for 17 years working in uniformed and CID roles on two different divisions prior to joining the Major Incident Team in 2005 as Detective Sergeant.  In this role he was the "officer in the case" for a number of murder investigations, including a murder with a firearm which led to the accused receiving a life sentence with a minimum 30 year tariff.

He was promoted to Detective Inspector in 2007 and was in charge of a number of homicide and other investigations (including cold cases) allowing him to become a nationally accredited SIO with the NPIA in 2010. He is currently a Temporary Detective Chief Inspector overseeing one of GMP's Major Incident Team syndicates.

As well as this, Sam is the GMP lead on matters relating to Family Liaison, and is a nationally trained hostage negotiator.
