Chinese Studies

The University of Salfords Chinese provision focuses on applied aspect of the Chinese languages at all levels. Undergraduate courses have a wide range of language and subject combinations including Chinese and translation and interpreting, Chinese and applied linguistics/linguistics, Chinese and TESOL, Chinese and European languages etc. All Chinese courses at Salford are open to ab initio learners. Its postgraduate provision is mainly in the area of translation studies including a number of PhD research students.

Research

The research areas for postgraduate research students include political translation, literary translation between Chinese and English and translation as an intellectual contingence.

The cultural and social aspects of China is incorporated into teaching and learning in the second year of undergraduate courses with a component of Chinese history and contemporary society to facilitate the learning of the languages and broaden students' knowledge of contemporary China.
