The SUCPS brings together a wealth of world-class scholarship and expertise. The Centre currently has over 150 members drawn from a number of Universities in addition to Salford (e.g. The University of Edinburgh; Manchester University, Manchester Metropolitan University; De Montfort University; Keele University) and from a range of disciplines and specialisms, i.e. Criminology, European Studies, Sociology, Intelligence Studies, Social Care; Mental Health, Social Work and Probation.
The Centre also has several external research and policy partners with whom we work closely. Our key local partner is HMP Manchester, which is governed by Mr. Richard Vince. We are delighted that the former Governor of Manchester prison, Mr. Chris Sheffield OBE, has taken on the role of Honorary Fellow in Criminology, both of SUCPS and of the wider Institute for Social, Cultural and Policy Research.
Our practitioner membership also includes professionals from agencies such as Salford Youth Offending Service, the Prison Service of England & Wales; the Romanian Prison Service and the Irish Prison Service; the Ministry of Justice and the Prisons Ombudsman. We also have a number of members who work in prisons, i.e. in the North West of England, including HMP Buckley Hall, HMP Styal and HMP Forest Bank, and outside the UK, ie in Romania and the United States.
Our international representation currently includes Ireland, Sweden, Estonia, Russia, Romania, Chad, Nigeria, Liberia, Malta, Israel, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Argentina, Brasil, Canada, and USA.
