Training

In line with our own research, we specialise in training practical "real world" research questions and problems that are supported by sound methodological understanding. 

CSR.Salford provides training in research methods to policy makers, practitioners, professional researchers and post-graduate students. We offer a number of courses at postgraduate level students interested in developing their skills in data collection techniques as well as bespoke courses to those wishing to enhance their understanding of social science research methods. We have experience providing training in rigorous data collection and analysis to policy makers, practitioners, and professional researchers from the voluntary and public sectors as well from international universities. We also offer scheduled part-time courses and individual seminars.

Our training programmes cover the following research skills:

  • Qualitative data collection and analysis: we provide a comprehensive introduction to developing and applying qualitative methods in social research, including designing, collecting and analysing data using cutting edge techniques interviewing, focus groups, and visual and other sensory methods.
  • Quantitative statistical analysis: we provide a comprehensive introduction to understanding and applying statistical methods for social sciences and associated disciplines, including an introduction to the SPSS software package, data entry and manipulation; univariate and bivariate statistics; and multivariate analyses, including linear and logistic regression, nested models and interaction effects to enable the use of statistical models for application to real-world research questions.
  • Research design: we provide a comprehensive overview of the fundamental elements of research design and administration, from designing research questions to sampling and recruitment, research ethics, and writing up research for appropriate audiences.
