Impacts

Informing debate, policy and practice is through our research is a key characteristic of the Centre for Social Research's work.  We engage with non-academic audiences in a variety of ways to ensure that our research can help impact real-world problems. These include targeted publications and briefing papers, sitting on policy advisory bodies, presenting to policy and practitioner audiences, and working closely with agencies to put our recommendations into practice.

Below are some examples of how CSR.Salford research has had a significant impact.

Informing government policy on resettlement of young offenders leaving custody

Our work with the national youth justice agencies and charities has led to fundamental changes in policy and practice supporting young offenders leaving prison. Centre researchers have been researching the 'resettlement' (or 'aftercare') since 1998.

According to the Youth Justice Board (YJB), the body responsible for policy development in youth justice in England and Wales, the research led by Dr Neal Hazel has had a " significant impact on policy."
