Dr Basil Germond
Academic and Research Career
Basil Germond holds an interdisciplinary MA in International Relations, an M.Res. in International History and Politics and a PhD in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, University of Geneva.
He is Lecturer in Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at Lancaster University. Peviously, he was Researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Development (UCLan), Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews and Visiting Research Fellow with the Oxford-Leverhulme Programme on the Changing Character of War, University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS).
Research Interests
Dr. Germond’s current research interests include the maritime dimension of security, the concept of border and frontier in IR and the European Security and Defence Policy. His current research projects concern the evolution of the concept of maritime frontier in the post-Cold War era, the European policies regarding the projection of security, and the geopolitics of the EU. He is currently preparing a book on the maritime dimensions of European security.
Dr. Germond was elected an ESRI Research Fellow in November 2009.
