Having graduated from the University of Kent, I subsequently acquired postgraduate and doctoral qualifications from the Universities of York and Birmingham.   I taught English as a Foreign Language in Italy and Switzerland before accepting teaching fellowship in Italian at Queen’s University, Belfast, and subsequently a lectureship in Italian at the University of Salford.

I teach Italian language and translation at undergraduate level and have taught and co-ordinated a range of modules on European cinema including “Europe on Screen – Conflict and  Change” and “European Cinema in the 20^th Century”.
