Biography
I completed my first degree in English Language and Literature at Oxford University, then worked as an EFL teacher in Greece and Germany before completing a Masters in Education (TESOL) programme at the University of Manchester. I was awarded an ESRC studentship to fund my PhD studies on the teaching and learning of grammar, also at Manchester University. I joined the University of Salford in 2001, leading the pre-sessional and in-sessional EAP programmes for several years. I was programme leader for the MA TESOL degree from 2008-2012. I am currently Director of Postgraduate Studies for the School of HuLSS.
Teaching
My teaching covers Second Language Learning theories and psychology of second language learning; research methodology for TESOL and Applied Linguistics.
PhD supervisions include extensive reading, learner autonomy of Arabic students, motivational strategies in the Saudi context, vocabulary learning strategies.
Research Interests
My research interests relate to the teaching and learning of grammar in EFL contexts; individual differences and second language learning; English for Academic Purposes; Beliefs and perceptions about second language learning; second language learning and emotions. I am also an active member of the University's Writer's Group: a peer support group for staff interested in publishing educational research.

Qualifications: BA English Literature and Language, CTEFLA, MA TEFL, PhD, PG Certificate in Academic Practice, Qualified Teacher status (EFL).
I am a member of International Association for Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL); British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL); British Association for Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP).
I am applying for fellowship of the Higher Education Academy following my completion of the PG Certificate in Academic Practice.
