Biography
I completed my undergraduate studies at Manchester University before completing a doctorate in social and political science at the European University Institute in Florence in 1998. I took up a lectureship at the University of Salford in the same year, and was promoted to Professor in 2008. Between 2005 and 2009 I was University Director of Graduate Studies, and from 2009 to 2011 was Head of School for English, Sociology, Politics and Contemporary History (ESPaCH). I was co-editor (with Prof Steven Fielding) of Parliamentary Affairs from 2005 to 2011. I am currently Associate Head (Research and Innovation) for the School of HuLSS, and Parliamentary Placement Officer in the Politics and Contemporary History Directorate. I also serve as a Fitness for Professional Practice panel chair for the University.
