University-wide Language Programme

Prepare for an international career by learning a language as part of your undergraduate course, or alongside your doctoral research.

Courses designed to develop your practical language skills at different levels are available in French, German, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese or Japanese.

The University-wide Language Programme (UWLP) comprises 20-credit courses running across the academic year. They are available as part of several undergraduate courses, or alongside postgraduate research studies with classes lasting two hours per week over two semesters . We recommend a further hour each week of directed independent study in our excellent Language Resource Centre; assessment is by coursework.
