University supports new college at MediaCityUK

Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin HallThe new University Technical College at Salford Quays announced by the Department for Education this week will offer fresh opportunities to 14 – 19 years olds who want to work in the media and digital industries.
It is among 15 new University Technical Colleges that will be developed across the country – all specialising in different areas. They are sponsored by a University, equipped to the highest standard and offer clear progression routes into higher education or further learning in work including apprenticeships
This landmark college will work directly with some of the most prestigious names in the digital and media industry to revolutionise the way young people develop crucial skills and pathways to jobs.
The University Technology College (UTC) at MediaCityUK has come about through a network of partners across education and industry – led by The Aldridge Foundation, The University of Salford, Salford City College and The Lowry. Other partners on the project include BBC, ITV and Adobe Systems Inc.
The Lowry’s Chief Executive, Julia Fawcett OBE, believes that the developments in the area provide the perfect springboard to create a new generation of creative professionals in Salford. She said:
"The UTC at MediaCityUK will be fundamental to inspiring local young people and enabling new creative and digital industries to flourish in the region. The UTC will ensure students can connect to the opportunities growth brings - linking these new industries to the local community. "
