Gait Analysis Courses

European Masters Programme – now enrolling

We are also working with the Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven, Belgium and the VU University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands to develop a European Masters Programme in Clinical Movement Analysis. This is funded by the Life Long Learning programme of the European Union. You can learn more about this at http://www.cmaster.eu.

As part of this we have developed a new master’s degree programme in Clinical Gait Analysis which will commence in September 2013. Applications are open now.

Introductory course

We offer a three day introductory course Measuring Walking – A practical guide to clinical gait analysis based around Professor Baker’s book of the same name (to be published December 2012). Using a variety of lectures, demonstrations, interactive exercises within the gait analysis laboratory and case studies this teaches the basics of clinical gait analysis (see download section below for programme). It assumes that some people in the team understand the basics of data capture and is most useful to those who have some experience of the clinical gait analysis process.

Customised gait courses at all levels

We can also offer customisable courses in gait analysis at a range of levels to suit those using gait analysis for clinical or research purposes.  These cover either two or three days and can include:

  • understanding the kinematics, kinetics and EMG patterns of human walking

  • measurement techniques including marker placement, physical examination and clinical video

  • date processing and modelling

  • interpretation and reporting of data

  • setting up and running a gait analysis service

The precise content, level of tuition and delivery style (traditional lectures or interactive workshops) can be varied and are agreed in advance with clients.

Courses are aimed at 6 to 10 people and we originally assumed that this would most often be for a group of individuals coming from a single centre. We are, however, happy to negotiate with more diverse groups. We have expertise in the use of VICON and Qualisys systems for data capture.

Courses are a little more expensive than similar courses offered elsewhere but we believe this is more than justified by their customisability, the small group experience and the quality of the accompanying documentation. Translation services can be arranged for a range of languages.

If you are interested in us putting on a course for your group then please contact r.j.baker@salford.ac.uk
