Biography
After qualifying in 1990 Susan obtained a post in Physiotherapy and progressed to a senior post in Musculoskeletal injury management and orthopaedics in 1993 at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Here she gained an NHS Executive North West Regional Fellowship grant to undertake an MPhil at the University of Manchester under the direction of Professor Jackie Oldham and Professor Kevin Mackway-Jones.
She became a Specialist Physiotherapy Practitioner and shortly after moved to a research practitioner post at Salford Royal NHS Hospital Trust, where she worked as an advanced practitioner in both acute care and in the community. On moving to the University of Salford in 2004, she developed specialist training for physiotherapists extending their roles in advanced practice. She went on to develop a part-time on-line MSc training programme in Trauma and Orthopaedics which was approved in 2009, designed for qualified doctors training to be orthopaedic surgeons studying alongside specialist non-medical orthopaedic practitioners.
She also developed the first MSc in Physiotherapy at Salford, and continued in her interest in driving education when she developed the MSc Surgical Practice, a programme designed for young trainee surgeons post medical school.
