Biography

I qualified as a Podiatrist in the early seventies and after a period of time working in both private practice and for the NHS, I took up a post as a lecturer in Podiatry at Salford. During my time in academia, I have maintained my clinical practice and have developed considerable expertise in the management of high risk foot problems related to systemic disease with a particular emphasis on diabetes and connective tissues disorders.

This expertise has enabled me to develop a growing international profile in establishment of gold standard podiatry training and services, latterly in Chennai, India and I am currently working on a similar project to review Podiatry services and training requirements in Abu Dhabi. I also have a national profile as an expert witness for Podiatry medico legal cases linked to high risk foot problems resulting from complications of systemic pathologies.

Since 2004, I have been Head of School of Health Sciences at the University of Salford and in 2012 was awarded a Professorial Chair based on sustained excellence in leadership and recognition of my national and international profile as a Podiatrist.

Teaching

My teaching is focused on clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of high risk Podiatry problems related to systemic disease, and the role of the expert witness in medico legal litigation.

Research Interests

My research interests are in development and implementation of international bespoke training and Podiatry services for patients with complex pathologies affecting the lower limb and foot.
