Dr Gillian Crofts is a Radiographer specialising in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound and researcher in ultrasound and foot and ankle biomechanics. Gillian has over 20 years of experience in Medical Ultrasound Imaging. She has held a number of academic leaderships including Programme Leadershipsof BSc (hons) Diagnostic Radiography and MSc Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound.

Gillian is a College of Radiographer Assessor; a member of The British Medical Ultrasound Society; and a member of the International Body for Radiographers where she is engaged on international ultrasound developments.

Previously Gillian has led a funded North West Clinical Standards Audit Group which published on standards in obstetric ultrasound in the North West of England. Since then her research has focused on learning experiences in ultrasound and more recently on improving the reliability of ultrasound in imaging of the muscular architecture in the field of foot and ankle biomechanics. Her current work on Ultrasound Image Analysis and Decision Making using a novel Open Source IT platform is a trans national project with colleagues at Carnegie Mellon University and aims to provide a system for improving the reliability of ultrasound image analysis and decision making.
