Michael qualified in 2000 with a Bsc (Hons) degree in Podiatry from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff. He began his career working for Gwent health care NHS trust and remained in south Wales for 2 years. Michael then came back to his home town of Stoke on Trent to work for the Primary Care Trust as a specialist practitioner, giving him the opportunity to work in all fields of podiatry but specifically in mentoring students and in the care of the high risk foot. More recently Michael has completed his master’s degree in medical education.
Since 2007 Michael has been employed as a lecturer at the University of Salford. His current teaching responsibilities include clinical diabetes, foundation medicine, pre hospital life support, minor surgery and local anaesthetics as part of both the undergraduate podiatry degree and post graduate programmes. Using his experience in teaching and in management of the high risk foot Michael is currently studying for his PhD investigating change and development in clinical services. This has afforded him the opportunity to work abroad in developing foot health services in developing countries such as India.
Michael also runs a successful private practice specialising in minor surgical interventions as well as general podiatric work. He will now be able to channel his experience and skills into successfully developing podiatric medicine further in countries across the world through exciting and innovative projects.
