Biography
I have been a Director within the School of Health Sciences since 2005. This role includes responsibility for two professional teams with 32 permanent staff, including strategic direction and operational oversight, financial planning and budgetary responsibilities, business engagement and income generation.
My professional background is diagnostic radiography, and my teaching and research activities are centred within the Radiography directorate and the Diagnostic Imaging Research Programme.
Teaching
Academic activity includes oversight of all Radiography and Occupational Therapy directorate programmes and short courses.
Personal teaching activity is mainly related to postgraduate advanced practice, in particular gastro-intestinal imaging (CT Colonography and Barium Swallow / Videofluoroscopy). I also contribute to anatomy and physiology teaching on undergraduate programmes.
I organize annual conferences on behalf of professional organisations and am an academic representative and/or Chairperson on various national committees. I am an external examiner and external panel member / professional body accreditor for external programmes.
Research Interests
Research interests include Advanced and Consultant Practice, Mammography and Patient Experience in Radiology. Personal interests lie in the developing field of Gastrointestinal Imaging, including the patient perspective of new technologies and the multi-professional skills mix required to meet changing service demands. I have now widened my research foci to include patient experience in other aspects of radiology to support emerging areas of our University’s Diagnostic Imaging Research Programme.
Lead investigator in various projects over last 3 years. I have successfully completed a PhD by Published Works in 2010, and now supervise, examine and Chair viva examinations for master and doctoral students within and outside the institution. I am a peer reviewer for NIHR bids and I am an editorial board member and reviewer for the Radiography journal.
