Biography
Since joining the University in 1999, Paul has held a number of senior roles including an Associate Head of School, Director of Programmes and also Associate Dean for Enterprise where he was responsible for creating partnerships, income and allied to the College’s teaching and research activity.
Prior to joining the University Paul gained extensive experience within the areas of physical activity and exercise working within corporate fitness, personal training and more recently as the health and fitness development officer for Salford. Many of these roles incorporated his expertise in measuring health and designing programmes however Paul is acutely aware of the deficiencies of this approach in achieving long term behaviour change when other factors such as social support, local environments and policy are not considered.
At a regional level, Paul ensures he maintains a strong presence through his membership of the North West Physical Activity Forum and as a member on the Greater Manchester Obesity forum and at a National Level he has presented to a number of keynote organisations including British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, the Department for Health and Skills Active. Allied to this, Paul has a keen interest in ensuring our graduates are ready for employment and this includes a close relationship with the Register of Exercise Professionals in developing new standards associated with personal training and exercise in special populations.
From a personal perspective Paul is also a regular cyclist commuting every day by bike and competing in the occasional race. His interest in elite performance and competitive sport led Paul to create the SUCCESS (Salford University Consultancy Combining Exercise and Sport Science) consultancy programme. Within this programme Paul leads in the areas of body composition and weight loss with additional expertise in maximal capacity testing for more details see http://www.salford.ac.uk/chsc/facilities/success-fitness-training
