About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Before arrival, students (if on a placement within the trust) can access the internal website to access details regarding the placement, shift times, pre reading, etc.

Please download the Welcome Booklet prior to commencing placement.


On arrival, the student is handed a pack containing:
*A proposed timetable listing possible visits and attendance at training
*Philosophy
*Fire alarm map and procedure
*North west model and prognostic indicator
*Moodle access instructions
*Reflective accounts
*Copies of palliative care leaflets.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

There are several mentors within the Specialist palliative care team and before a student arrives the mentor is decided and ensures to be on duty on the first day of placement.

The Specialist Palliative Care team work Monday- Sunday 0830-1630

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

On this placement the student will work alongside the Specialist teams and visit patients on the ward and in the care homes. The students will witness excellent communication skills and the complex management of patients at the end of life and their families.
