About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students are orientated to the ward and are allocated to a named mentor.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Days 07.00 - 19.30 with two half hour breaks.
Nights:- 19.30 - 07.30 with an hours break.
Note:- To ensure you work the required 37.5 hours each week you will be required to also do 'make up' shifts.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Students have the opportunity to care for patients requireing neuro-rehabilitation.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Students will have the opportunity to observe and actively participate in rehabilitation within a multi-disciplinary setting including working alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
- Mental Capacity Assessment.
- Challenging behaviour management.
- Psychological assessments.
What resources are available to help students learning?
There are many opportunities for you to share good practice on this ward and the whole neurological centre. Students have access to the Trust's academic library. Please remember that your greatest learning resources are the patients and staff.
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
Spoke placements to other wards within neurosciences and with specialist nurses.
