Each student has a mentor. All part time mentors have an associate mentor working with them.

What nursing model is used for planning care?
ICP's or Rochdale Model
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
TPR & BP, Visual activity, Pre/post op care, Drop instillation, ECG, Blood sugar monitoring, Care of Patient in theatre, Pre-assessment.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Test for dry eyes, scrubbing up technique, conjunctual swabs, eye irrigation, epilation.

We provide ophthalmic care for Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton and Tameside and Glossop patients. Opening days are Monday - Friday. Working hours vary in each area (please contact the department for your off duty prior to starting your placement). There is a dedicated study room with a well stocked ophthalmic library and access to the internet. The unit has Wi-Fi. We are split into 3 areas: Clinic, Ward and Theatre. All 3 areas work closely together to give the patient the best experience. As a student you will work in all 3 areas during your placement.
