What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Student orientation and student timetable to allow access to various aspects of the speciality.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Students will work with their mentor and follow the mentor according to mentors diary.

9am : 5pm

Chronic Disease Management

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Blood ketone monitoring
  • Urine monitoring
  • Lipid monitoring

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Blood glucose management and general chronic disease management for both the in patient and out patient.

  • Journals

  • Working with experienced specialist professionals
  • Working with the multi-professional team such as district nurses, podiatry etc.

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

National and local audits are regularly carried out. Staff have individual personal development plans often requiring them to carry out research.

Spoke Placements

Experience may be gained from a spoke on the acute wards to gain an insight in how diabetes is managed in the acute setting.
