About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Mentors allocated before students arrival on the ward. Student placement/orientation pack.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Mentors are aware of students allocated to them prior to their arrival. Further training the form of prepatation for Mentorship Module, Mentorship updates and Associated Mentor Training.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

7.30 am. - 3.30 p.m.

Late:

1.00 p.m. - 9.00 p.m.

Night:

8.30 p.m. - 7.45 a.m.

Shift Notes:

Long day shift - 7.30am - 8.45pm

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Patients on the Ward are usually known patients experiencing a relapse in their Mental Health problems or patients new to Mental Health services who are admitted for assessment of their Mental Health needs.

Developed by Meadowbrook unit, based on 12 aspects of care.

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

The Meadowbrook site has recently undergone a service re-design. Keats ward now accepts all female patients between the ages of 16 - 65. This has resulted in practice development focusing on gender specific services and attitudes towards Female Mental Health Services.

Additional Information

Nurses on the unit now wear uniforms and students are asked to come in their uniforms (black trousers/skirt and white polo shirt)

Identification badges are essential.

Students are asked to telephone the Ward before the placement starts to arrange the shift they are to start on.
