About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

This placement is now part of the Synergy Project commencing September 2017. Please download and read the Student Synergy Welcome Pack prior to commencing placement for more information.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Students will be allocated a mentor on commencement of placement. They will also be supported by clinical coaching by other staff members throughout their placement.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

7:30 am – 3:30pm

Late:

1:00pm  – 8:00pm

Night:

7:30 pm – 8:00am ( These will be rolled out at some point during the Synergy project dependent on student numbers)

Shift Notes:

Days: Student will NOT be able to work long days

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Darley Court offers Intermediate Care for those patients requiring rehabilitation in which the full MDT work together aiming to discharge patients to their own homes

We also provide nursing care over 24hrs for patients who may require IV antibiotics, IV fluids, wound care or other nursing needs

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Roper, Logan and Tierney

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

  • Assessing, Planning and Implementing Patient Care.
  • Medication Rounds
  • Clinical Observations i.e. BP, Pulse etc.,
  • Wound Management.

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

  • Communication skills, i.e. working and liaising with a variety of MDT members
  • Looking after patients with various conditions and needs.

What resources are available to help students learning?

  • Access to Computers
  • Various Learning Packs
  • Training Session at Darley Court

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

There are regular teaching/training sessions held at Darley Court.

Staff are encouraged to attend study days.

Spoke Placements

Students are encouraged to arrange spoke placements whilst at Darley Court.

Suggested spoke placements are:-

  • District Nurses
  • Referral and Assessment Team
  • Laburnum Lodge IMC Unit
  • IV Therapy Team

There will be opportunities to spend time with the physio, OT, pharmacy staff, social workers who are based at Darley Court
