Campus Initiatives

Campus Initiatives

A life-changing student experience includes plenty of opportunities for personal development outside of the core activities of teaching and research. In a large and thriving University, flexible financial support is essential to responding to the ever-changing needs of our students and providing an exceptional student experience.

Employers expect graduates to have a well-rounded university experience, and without this source of funding, many students would miss out on opportunities that might otherwise have been available to them, and may not fulfil all of their ambitions during their time at Salford.

The Campus Initiatives Fund supports projects that enhance the student experience, academic developments or the University’s overall environment or profile, but for which there are few other sources of funding available.

Donations to the Campus Initiatives are awarded to projects which:

  • Improve student facilities or enhancing communal spaces
  • Provide students with opportunities not otherwise available to them (academic or extracurricular)
  • Enable students and the University to engage with the local community
  • Each year anyone in the University community can apply for funding for projects which demonstrate a clear impact on students, the campus or our local Salford community.

Projects our alumni funded this year include providing basic life support and emergency skills to students and the wider community, providing additional funding to the Salford Students Union for the purchase of a replacement boat for the boat club, and upgrading Shock Radio equipment, and the Salford University Radio Society project – reaching out into space.
