HSE Chief Executive leads Salford health conference
THE ENVIRONMENTAL Health agenda is an important plank of research for Salford University with links to scholarship in biology, ecology, geography, conservation and urbanism.
Today, we proudly host the future of Health and Safety Conference, chaired by Carole Conroy, and presenting Richard Judge, Chief Executive of the HSE as the keynote speaker.
With around 100 postgraduates studying environmental health and management – one of our biggest overseas recruiters – health and safety agendas lie at the policy end of our work on pollution, biodiversity, wellbeing and quality of life for city living.
Our staff – including Dr Conroy – also train clients in local government, the BBC and so forth in environmental management.
Opening the conference, Carole said: “I am delighted that we have been able to bring together exceptional speakers, delegates and sponsors from across the country as a community of practice.
“The University of Salford has some of the longest established programmes of Safety, Health and Environmental management disciplines in the UK, and hosting this event underpins our vision of working closely with industry to make a real difference.”
Programmes include the Masters in Environment and Public Health, and the Masters in Environmental Assessment and Management. And also:
- Masters Occupational Safety, Health and Wellbeing, and Masters in Safety, Health and Environment.
Delegates heard from expert speakers including Dr Richard Judge, and learned of best practice in developing simple, effective health and safety procedures that can improve occupational health and safety practices and how to develop innovative health and safety policies that save significant costs.
Richard Judge was appointed Chief Executive of the HSE in November 2014, and has worked as Chief Executive of the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science, the government’s foremost source of evidence and expert advice relating to the marine environment.
The conference was staged and managed by Salford Professional Development and held at the A J Bell Stadium in Salford.
