First students pass IBMS accreditation

Following completion of their final year, Amina and Aumera will be awarded their Certificate of Competence; allowing them to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as Biomedical Scientists, proving great employment opportunities in the NHS.

Their placements were set up via discussions at the School’s Biomedical Science employer liaison committee, generating excellent collaboration opportunities with senior biomedical scientists. The students’ placements were supervised by Paul Loy & Christine Loy in Microbiology and John Hayes and Ann Pearson in Cellular Pathology at the Royal Oldham Hospital, Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

This is the first time University of Salford students have gone to Oldham, and said they “valued their experience that provided access to modern technologies in the working environment, and the opportunity to advance their careers in Biomedical science”.

Rachel Boardman, Emma Curbishley (Manchester Royal Infirmary) and Jessica Casson (University Hospital of South Manchester) also undertook IBMS portfolios this year and are due to take their IBMS assessments during their final year at the University of Salford.
