Applied archaeology is about transferring knowledge of the past from academia to industries and communities.
For industry, understanding the impact of the archaeological and built heritage resource on construction projects is essential to their success and completion. Providing local communities and groups with increased access to their own heritage and archaeology improves social cohesion and fosters an increased sense of identity and worth within an area.
Applied Archaeology Centre staff members are experienced research and field archaeologists with interests and in, and a commitment to, exploring current practice in community, industrial archaeology, and professional archaeology.
The Centre also has skills in combining landscape data with other data sets in the built environment through techniques such as Historic Landscape Characterisation and 3D Visualisation.
