Energy at the University of Salford

Making a difference to global problems is at the heart of the University of Salford’s mission and there are no more pressing concerns today than the issues surrounding energy.

Taking our long held expertise in the built environment and the physical and social sciences, we’ve created an Energy Hub to tackle the energy crisis head-on.

By combining academics across so many disciplines and investing in unique facilities like the Energy House, we’re creating solutions on fronts as diverse as energy generation, demand, efficiency, government policy and consumer behaviour.

What we do:

• Research - We combine academics across subjects such as physics, materials, psychology and housing to create unique solutions in energy research. We produce cutting-edge findings about behaviour and technology that are applied directly to industry partners like housing associations.

• Teaching - Energy at the University of Salford encompasses formal undergraduate and postgraduate degrees such as the MSC Sustainable Design and short CPD courses run in collaboration with business consultancy, Envirolink.

• Work with business - Whether it’s providing world-class facilities for product testing or lending academic expertise, the Energy Hub has worked with businesses from the small start-up to major multi-nationals to make a positive impact on products and services.

• Facilities - The Energy House – a terraced house fully reconstructed inside an environmentally controlled lab – is just one of the many research spaces we use and offer to industry.  We’ve got a UKAS accredited thermal measurement laboratory and the home of world-famous Salford physicist James Joule is available as a teaching and meeting space.
