Supporting Business Change

Want to start a new project that requires some ITS assistance? For all work requests, from the large to the very small, the following process needs to be followed when initiating work within ITS.

To start a new project that requires ITS help, the following simple steps must to be followed:

  1. Complete a Work Request Form template and email it to its-servicedesk@salford.ac.uk informing them you want to raise a new work request.
  2. The ITS Service Desk will open a case for you and inform the ITS Programme Management Office (PMO).
  3. PMO will carry out an initial analysis and a Business Analyst and an Architect may come to meet you to clarify your requirements and assess the ITS impact of the work.
  4. The completed form will then undergo an internal review by the ITS Senior Management Team (SMT) and a decision will be made.
  5. If a Work Request is deemed a significant piece of work, the ITS SMT will escalate it to the Vice-Chancellors Executive Team (VCET) for approval.

P0777 Upgrade Sage Finance Software

"...the ITS team responded positively and with great speed and professionalism in making the change...Thanks so much for your excellent work in making this happen."

Bryan Taylor, Supplier via Student Life Directorate (July ’16)

P0722 Research Information System (Phase 1)

"James has provided excellent project management of the RIS workstream, working closely with the R&E business lead, and with excellent support from Karla Seward, and management support from Mark Hilditch. The project was complex, with a number of senior stakeholders, both professional services and    academic.    The    project    also    had    a    long    history (prior to James and Karla's involvement), which meant that some of the academic stakeholders were either cynical or reluctant to commit time to the project.    Despite this, James and Karla engaged with all stakeholders through various means to ensure their requirements were recorded.

The project  finished on time, and with an excellent set of requirements, none of which would have been possible without James' management of the project, and Karla's business analysis work. Both James and Karla have gone above and beyond the call of duty to achieve this result and    always    found innovative ways around issues and problems."

Dr Jo Creswell, Research and Enterprise Division (Sept '16)

P0769 Alma API Improvements

"The introduction of SMS...aimed to provide an enhanced service to our users and streamline our internal processes for the management of lost books. Working with the Project Manager we were able to utilise an existing system, Connect Txt, without having to purchase additional software. When the project    began  to  stall due    to    technical issues, the Project Manager intervened to ensure continued progress. ITS Developers worked closely with us throughout the project to ensure its successful conclusion."

Angela Walker, The Library (Nov '16)

P0797 Automated Web Based Form

"This development has resulted in significant efficiencies for this particular area of work that will greatly benefit staff and students alike.  The support that ..ITS... provided throughout has been terrific and made what we thought would be an onerous exercise into a thoroughly pain free experience."

Fiona Pasquill, Directorate of Student & Academic Support (Feb '17)
