College of Science & Technology
Your future starts here.
Research with the power to change lives
Postgraduate Research
We attract students from all walks of life and this helps to create a vibrant and dynamic postgraduate research environment within the college.
Research degrees offer you the flexibility to carry out your own research project under direct supervision of an academic member of staff. You can study towards a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
An MPhil is a shorter research training course than a PhD, and consists of expert supervision, research training, taught modules and independent study. A PhD is the highest degree awarded by the University and will equip you to make informed judgements on complex issues in specialist fields, as well as adopting an innovative approach to tackling and solving problems. The College also offers an Online Doctoral Programme that is studied full time.
Research students In the College of Science and Technology have access to a wide range of supervisory expertise and excellent facilities in the three Schools. There is a very strong international dimension, with students in the College attracted here from a wide range of countries, including Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the United States, as well as from Europe and within the UK.
Salford Postgraduate Annual Research Conference (SPARC)
SPARC is a forum for developing research, offering a space for postgraduate researchers from all disciplines to exchange ideas. Proposals for presentations are invited which directly address the contribution and originality of the research in relation to any of the conference themes: theory, practice and impact.
