Research with the power to change lives
Research
World class facilities and research-focused academics lead the delivery of our research and postgraduate teaching in the College where we aim to solve real world problems such as reducing Co2 emissions, harnessing alternative energy sources and curing childhood cancers.
The recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) demonstrated that we have developed our research profile significantly since the RAE 2008 and we now have 50% more academics actively involved in research. In fact, we are in the top third of UK universities for research and our vision is to improve our position significantly by 2017.
Ensuring support for a range of research activities, including bidding, early career research and conference travel, we have a dedicated Research & Graduate College employing a specialist team of staff.
Research Centres
School of the Built Environment
With some 70 active research staff, very many of whom are internationally recognised leaders in their field and over 240 PhD students from around the world undertaking research programmes with us, our research is principally focussed in research centres. If you wish to undertake a PhD, each centre has identified areas on their web pages, where they will particularly welcome PhD proposals from prospective students. View the Built Environment research centre pages.
School of Computing, Science and Engineering
Research at Salford is highly rated and some of the School of Computing, Science & Engineering's research centres were part of the Research Institutes that achieved 6* rating in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Read about the research centres.
