Alumni Profile
Louise Brown: Advanced Musculoskeletal practitioner
I currently work as an Extended Scope MSK Practitioner at SRFT and I am also the lead physiotherapist for England Netball. I qualified in 2000 and a lot of my postgraduate education has been in developing my diagnostic and treatment skills of orthopaedic conditions both within NHS practice and sport I completed an MSc in Advanced Practice back in 2008, but felt I wanted to do further modules specifically related to the management of orthopaedic conditions. I have completed both the upper and lower limb trauma orthopaedic modules at Salford University and found them extremely informative and beneficial to both of my areas of work. It is quite refreshing to have a course that is delivered by so many experts in their field. There is a high standard of teaching, case discussions and online learning that is both relevant and useful. It has made me think differently from a physiotherapist/ESP perspective about managing upper and lower limb orthopaedic conditions. I feel much more informed about radiology, assessment and surgery. Having access to orthopaedic consultants, radiologists, sports physicians and specialist physiotherapists within one course was fantastic. The content of the course has helped to consolidate and increase my knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions. I would definitely recommend this course to health professionals and doctors who have an interest in trauma and orthopaedics.
Vicky Lyle: Extended Scope Practitioner
I am an Advanced Orthopaedic Practitioner (AOP) with a physiotherapy background, working in an extended role in both primary and secondary care orthopaedics. Having worked as a specialised MSK physio my role developed over the years and now involves assessment, diagnostics, investigations and treatment within an integrated team. I wanted to do the course because I was about to start work in a fracture clinic, dealing with trauma as well as continuing to develop my elective patient role. The evidence based approach and the dynamic consultant lead teaching motivated me to complete the self study elements of the course and I have learnt a great deal from the effort invested. It has even allowed me to challenge practice and introduce new ways of working in some areas.
