Teaching modes include:
- whole cohort lectures (e.g. Approaches to Translation and Interpreting)
- tutorials (oral and interpreting practice)
- seminars (for written production activities, translation).
- Face to face teaching is supported by a range of materials and web links available in the university’s VLE (Virtual Learning Environment). Use of blended learning (e-learning) is a feature of some modules in this programme (e.g. Structure of English).
- Wherever appropriate, teaching takes place in the foreign language and real-life, task-based activities are as much a part of the language classes as grammar or translation to prepare you for the work environment.
- You will engage in independent learning throughout the programme with individual supervision provided by your personal and academic tutors. Self-access study and practice exploiting the Language Resource Centre is an integral part of the course.
- A range of T&I modules are supported by a Peer Assisted Study Scheme.
Assessment
Assessment consists of a combination of formative and summative assessments:
- essays
- translation projects
- individual and group presentations
- written and aural comprehension
- written translations
- interpreting exams
- reflective statements
- written language exercises written and oral language examinations
