This module aims to expand your understanding of 20th century literature to help you get more out of your reading and/or to develop your creative writing projects. It provides you with an intense series of encounters with the most important theoretical writings of modernity alongside a range of innovative and experimental poetry and prose. You will learn to read literary texts with a fresh and critical eye and explore big questions such as ‘what is a literary text?’, ‘how does a writer make meaning?’ and ‘what is the relation between writing and desire?’

This course can be studied alone or as part of the MA Creative Writing or the MA Literature, Culture and Modernity.
