Alumni Profile
Shelly Parkin
Managing Director of Money Advice Group MBA Cohort 2009-2010
Shelly has gained useful knowledge and ‘learnt a great deal about the kind of person I am’; she has also been able to implement theory from the MBA into her own group of companies. Shelly is founder/managing director of the Money Advice Group currently employing 200 staff. Next year, she says, she intends to explore the idea of having a ‘consultant’ from The Salford MBA for the final semester: “Money Advice Group are currently developing a ‘graduate’ scheme to encourage new graduates to gain experience and knowledge through our group of companies.”
Ged Fitzgerald
Chief Executive, Liverpool Council
“I chose Salford for my MBA for several reasons - it was a new and progressive course with a challenging blend of input, integration and application. It also enabled me to learn a lot about excellent private sector organisational experience and thinking and to apply it to the public sector. It was a fundamental asset in shaping my career and continues to help me in leading a major, complex organisation.”
Industry Links
The Salford MBA’s links with industry take the form of guest lectures, real case studies and business trips. These take on a global aspect during the overseas trip; last year students visited Rouen, in Northern France.
Recent business trips – normally involving tours of factories and other facilities, as well as discussions with company experts and managers – have included:
- Adidas
- Halewood – TATA’s Merseyside factory producing Jaguar and Land Rover
- Pilkington Glass
