This course aims to foster advancement and originality of professional TV documentary production and research through the integration of highly developed specialist production crafts and detailed knowledge of the documentary form.
Providing informed, professional guidance and a supportive environment to enable you to maximize your creative and technical potential, you will work in production teams and on documentary projects.
You will develop your creative and research skills; learn documentary concepts, techniques and processes; and develop your communication and problem-solving skills. In addition, you will develop your understanding and familiarity with the field of documentary filmmaking, and creative media production.
Semester 1
Creative Development Project
Within an atmosphere and philosophy of creativity, innovation and experimentation, built around a programme of screenings, seminars, and workshops, you will develop your creative and critical skills, through applied theory and practical work, towards the development of ideas and proposals for your production projects.

Post-production Practice and Theory
The syllabus will examine and analyse classical, current and future workflows for post production in film and television. Critical and reflective analysis of past to current workflows will give insight into how development trends will shape the future of post production workflows both technologically and economically.

Structured into two parts:
- The editorial role of the producer
- Media law
The module will be responsive to current trends and practices within the industry and attention given to the impact of the changing landscape on the role of the producer.

Collaborative Project
The syllabus fosters a high degree of creativity intended to develop collaborative production practices. The module will analyse and expand present workflows in order to develop new and more efficient ways to produce audio-visual content. Through workshops, you will be able to focus on the specialist disciplines on offer.

The module is built around workshops in which you develop skills through applied theory and practical work. You will work with such elements as specialist camera techniques, the challenges of sound recording and post-dubbing and post production techniques.

This will involve an in-depth analysis of the role of sound design in contemporary media production. Through critical and reflective analysis of past to current workflows, the module will identify the techniques and practices that constitute modern sound design both technologically and economically.

Practice Research Project
The syllabus is led by your independent research, development and analysis supporting the self-directed project. The process will be supported by regular feedback and critique sessions from supervisors with specialist knowledge in the relevant areas of practice/research.
