MSc/PgDip/PgCert Surgical Practice

This course uses blended teaching strategies to develop your knowledge and skills relevant to both academia and professional practice.
This includes:
- Lectures
- Seminars
- Directed study
- Critical reflection
- Clinical practice and
- Online virtual learning
You will attend for a two day block, and two one day sessions. Attendance is offsite in simulation anatomy dissection workshops and in seminar rooms.
Assessment
You will be assessed using a combination of approaches designed to assess key learning objectives and skills for each module. These can include:
- Portfolios
- Case presentations
- Objective structured clinical examinations
- Written assignments
Assessment is designed to assess key learning objectives and skills for each module including:
- The ability to practice safely, efficiently and effectively in specified areas
- The ability to think analytically and problem solve in a range of clinical environments
- The ability to be reflective and critically analyse your own practice to progress and develop new evaluated methods.
Staff Profile
Prof Baguneid - Clinical Programme Lead
Professor Mo Baguneid graduated from University of Manchester in 1993 and followed a career in vascular surgery. Following his house officer year he accepted a position at Cardiff University as an anatomy demonstrator. He returned to the North West in 1995 and completed general surgical training, later specialising in vascular surgery. Currently, he runs the North West core surgical teaching programme and is clinical director of vascular surgery. His current research interests include tissue engineering and investigations into biomarkers of atherosclerosis.
