Doctors with MB ChB or equivalent.
Nurses and allied health professionals with an appropriate AHP/nursing qualification with more than 2 years clinical experience will be considered.
We also welcome applications from students without formal/ traditional entry requirements but with relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully. Our APEL system is commonly used for these applicants and requires them to produce a portfolio of evidence with support from the University to demonstrate their experience and abilities.

Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)
The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.
Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
English Language Requirements
International applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 (no element below 5.5) is proof of this.
Suitable For
This course is suitable for surgical trainees within the first two years of training after leaving medical school or early on in their core surgical training years and GPs with a special interest in surgery. Nurses and allied health professionals, clinical assistants and extended role practitioners in surgery are also eligible to apply.
Applicant profile
You will normally be a trainee surgeon who wishes to gain further experience and qualifications to advance your career, complementing the mandatory education courses offered to surgical trainees.
This course has been designed in-line with health care developments. We therefore receive applications from GPs and non-medical professionals where it’s appropriate to their roles.
