This three year, part-time course in strength and conditioning will enhance your practical skills and your ability to critically evaluate and apply research in a real-life environment.

You will have access to the largest pool of strength and conditioning expertise of any academic institute in the country. Numerous members of staff have strength and conditioning qualifications with the NSCA and UKSCA.
The full course runs part-time over three years giving you the chance to exit with the following awards:
- Postgraduate Certificate: two modules over one year
- Postgraduate Diploma: four modules over two years
- Masters: four modules plus a dissertation over three years
Year 1
Semester 1
Science of Sports Performance (30 Credits)
You will enhance your theoretic, practical and applied understanding of the physiology and biomechanics of sports performance. Critical evaluation of applied research is a primary focus. This module prepares you for the subsequent modules.

Semester 2
Screening and Conditioning for Sport (30 credits)
You will develop the ability to critically evaluate the scientific principles and theories of Strength and Conditioning and athletic screening, and learn to apply them in a real world context.

Year 2
Semester 1
Applied Conditioning for Sports (30 credits)
You will develop the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment. You will become competent at interpreting, evaluating and applying information from a variety of professionals (coach, physiotherapists/rehabilitators, physiologists, psychologists, biomechanists, nutritionist/dietician) involved in an athlete’s development, and use this information to develop a long term periodised exercise programme. This will include ‘real life’ practical application, in relation to optimising performance in specific sports. This module has a strong focus on applied sports nutrition.

Semester 2
Integrated Project (30 Credits)
You will experience carrying out a systematic and structured group/individual project. This will further develop your critical evaluation and research skills in relation to your own professional practice and includes dissemination of research and good practice.

Dissertation (60 credits)
You will undertake an in-depth, evidence based exploration of a key area relevant to your own practice. This is a substantial, independent, research project.
