Industry Links
The course may include the opportunity to do a professional placement which will provide you with relevant work-experience as an integrated part of the course. This opportunity is dependent on both your academic performance (as gauged by an appropriate achievement in Semester 1 assessments) and whether you can prove yourself to a potential employer. Placement companies will assess your CV (and possibly a Covering Letter) and will interview you. Hence, your performance will be a key factor in determining whether you secure an industrial placement. The university cannot guarantee that opportunities for professional placements will be available but would be active in trying to create some.
These professional placements can be with either an employer the University has established links with or one you have sought out yourself through personal research. In both cases, this allows the employers to have direct input into the nature of the work done, and it allows the transfer of technical and academic skills from the course environment to the host company environment. The timescales provide the possibility of a seamless transition from project work to full employment.
