Career Prospects
Quantity surveyors are in high demand, and graduates from this course are sought after by employers. Recent graduates are working in a wide range of organisations in both the public and private sectors. These include construction companies, surveying consultancies, property developers, local authorities and government departments.
As well as cost management, quantity surveyors now provide an expanding range of services including:
- Advice on development feasibility
- Procurement routes
- Cost planning and control
- Financial accounting
- Contractual management
Individual quantity surveyors can channel their careers into specialised roles such as project management, facilities management, contract consultancy and arbitration.
This course is to educate you to the highest standards set by the RICS and the CIOB.

Students who are on the Multidisciplinary Projects module have been working with local communities on some ‘live’ building projects across the discipline. In 2010, students helped design a new club-house for Salford City FC worth £500m. This new club-house will be built later 2011.

Placements are a key feature of the course and take place between academic years 2 and 3. It offers the opportunity to apply your knowledge in the workplace and to develop your professional and technical skills.
