This course comprises of six Level 6, 20 credit modules, of which ‘Professional Practice Consolidation’ must be completed first (you are exempt from this if you have a PQ1 Certificate which can be used for APL). The remaining five modules can be taken in any order:

Professional Practice Consolidation
Consolidate and consistently demonstrate professional competence in direct work with users of social care services.
Address the full range of social work competencies across all the units of the National Occupational Standards for social work. Think critically about practice in the context of the GSCC codes of practice and the principles of diversity, equality and social inclusion.

Critical Reflective Practice
Enhance your practice with respect to promoting the rights of service users. Critically reflect on your employing organisation’s policies and practices with respect to the implementation of equality standards and adherence to the GSCC codes of practice for social work.

Working with Adults
This module aims to enhance person-centered social work practice ensuring that candidates have knowledge, skills and values consistent with the required key roles and with Post-Qualifying Social Work (PQSW) Occupational Standards for Adult (2006).

Assessment and Intervention
Develop a critical and sophisticated understanding of the complexities associated with assessment, care management, personalisation and intervention as core elements of social work practice with adults.

Collaborative Practice
Critically examine your role in relation to working with service users, carers, your own agency, other agencies and organisations, and the wider community to assist you to reach the PQSW national occupational standard at specialist level.

Prepares you to teach and assess the practice of student social workers and mentor and support students and colleagues.
