This course aims to foster the advancement and originality of professional post production practices through the integration of highly developed specialist skills and detailed knowledge of current and post production.

Working with industry partner the School of Sound Recording, the course will offer a range of self-directed and team-orientated industry briefs which will ensure you gain an advanced and detailed understanding of creative processes, production workflow, and the associated technical complexities required to achieve professional quality output

Course details

With the continued development of ever- more complex digital media, there is a requirement for graduates with the skills needed to deliver the next generation of digital content. The anticipated growth in media- related industry within the north west, with particular reference to MediaCityUK, defines the rationale for this course; employer engagement, industry partnerships and enhanced employment opportunities are features which set this course at the forefront of contemporary media development.

The course is run in partnership with the School of Sound Recording (SSR), a Manchester based, private education provider, which offers the opportunity to collaborate with an establishment rooted in the tradition of the Manchester music and audio industry. SSR also provides industry engagement, quality teaching and industry standard facilities. This course will provide students with the potential to engage with industry partners at a time when the role of post production professional is being redefined. Guest lectures, live industry briefs and the potential for industry placements also increase employment opportunities.

Semester 1

Core

Creative Development Project (30 credits)

A chance to develop your skills within an atmosphere and philosophy of innovation and experimentation. The module is built around programs of lecture/seminars and workshops in which you can develop your creative and critical skills through applied theory and practical work.

Post Production Practice and Theory (30 credits)

The syllabus will examine and analyse classical, current and future workflows for post production in film and television. Critical and reflective analysis of past to current workflows will give insight into how development trends will shape the future of post production workflows both technologically and economically.

Semester 2

Core

Collaborative Project (30 credits)

Undertake a mix of generic and specialist workshops in a number of post production disciplines. The syllabus will foster a high degree of creativity and develop the collaborative skills you need to succeed in current and future industry environments.

Advanced Audio Post Production Practice and Theory (30 credits)

The syllabus will explore classical, current and future workflows for audio post production in film and television. This will involve a critical and reflective analysis of past to current audio workflows.

Advanced Post Production Practice and Theory (30 credits)

The syllabus will involve a critial and reflective analysis of past to current workflows and provoke insight into how development trends will shape the future of post production workflows technologically, economically and aesthetically.

Semester 3

Core

Practice Research Project (60 credits)

The module is student-led independent research, development and analysis supporting the self-directed project. The process will be supported by regular feedback and critique sessions from supervisors with specialist knowledge in the relevant areas of practice/research.
